In August remember to…
KNOW WHO YOU ARE
Goal for the Month:
Be able to write down your own values about family, children, personal behavior, work performance and your role in your community.
TODAY I reflect on my habit to KNOW WHO I AM
Health Education and Immunizations
This above all, to thine own self be true
And it must follow as the night the day
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
— William Shakespeare, British Playwright, Hamlet
August is the summation of 12 Habits of Unity the month to evaluate who you are and how well you “walk your talk.” When each of us is becoming our better selves, then we are also becoming more unified in America. We are increasing our focus on what we have in common – while honoring the ways in which we are different.
August is a slower paced month of vacations—a time to relax and also to reflect. Your habit-building color for this month is “Thoughtful Blue.” Encourage yourself in August to reflect on your values and where “you” are taking your own future.
What kind of memories are you making out of your own moments? Who are you? How are you different from a year ago? And how do you want to be different a year from now? Reflect on your priorities, your direction and your values. Do you allocate your time to support what is important to you?
This sign just showed up in August, in a field near Somerset, PA, when the habit for the month is, “Know Who You Are.” We can’t be sure it’s placement was inspired by August’s habit but most likely, it was.
Cosmic Comic Swami Beyondananda gives his unique take on the 12 Habits of Unity's Habit for Augus - “Know Who You Are.”
Know thyself. Aeschylus …Socrates …Plato all ascribed to this aphorism. The month of August, when many in the Northern hemisphere celebrate summer and timeless vacation time, what better time for self-reflection? Know thyself, know who you are, can apply to your purposes, your talents, your aspirations – and even your limitations. Without acknowledging
and appreciating those limitations, we set ourselves up for disappointment and sometimes tragedy.
August is a time to find some quiet moments, perhaps in nature, to review our lives and how we spend our time. Do we see ourselves, not at the center of life, but as a contextual and contributing member of our larger global community? Are we spending our time on the things that matter to us, our family, our purpose, our health and our happiness?
“Each of us is totally unique, just like everyone else.”
– Swami Beyondananda

knowing who you are in August here.
This revolution of good habits will grow because you act on the habits and because you have good ideas for spreading the 12 habits too. As an example, one dentist displayed monthly habits posters.. on the ceiling over his patients - and changed them each month. How COOL is that?? Share YOUR stories and ideas with us and we’ll feature them on the website so others can benefit from your sharing.
