In May remember to…
BE GREATFUL

Goal for the Month:

In addition to appreciating others, take time to
appreciate yourself — do something you’ve always wanted to do!

Daily Reflection

TODAY, I cherish my habit to BE GREATFUL

Health Focus

Appreciate your body with Exercise

Color Cue

Grateful Pink

“Be Grateful” is a perfect mental health Habit for May. During this special month we celebrate both Memorial Day and Mother’s Day.  Also, teachers, government service workers and many volunteers across America are honored and appreciated for all they do.

A great health tip for May is to show gratitude to your own body with some extra exercise.  Experts tell us that exercise can make you feel happier because it produces changes in the parts of the brain that regulate stress and anxiety.  At the very least, take more walks or take the stairs instead of elevators when you can.

Also, think pink this month. “Grateful Pink,” is for Mom and for all those you appreciate everywhere. When I see or wear pink, I think “Grateful Pink” and of someone I can appreciate.

Even cool men wear pink. Pink is intuitive and insightful, showing tenderness and kindness with its empathy and sensitivity. Pink calms and reassures our emotional energies. Pink puts people in touch with the nurturing side of themselves.

Because I have been working on these 12 monthly habits for many years, I send many thank you notes during May. It has already become a “tradition” for me to do this. Maybe you can start your own “grateful” tradition. We have thirty-one days to work on being more grateful and appreciative.

Take time this month to celebrate “Be Grateful” in your own life and in your own way. Notice and appreciate workers you pass by on the street.  Notice that person washing windows over there. How about telling them how nice they look as you pass by? Tell your children why you appreciate them. And don’t forget to appreciate yourself. You are important too.

Cosmic Comic Swami Beyondananda gives his unique take on the 12 Habits of Unity’s May Habit - BE GRATEFUL

“The more you appreciate what you have, the more what you have will appreciate.”

Swami Beyondananda

One of the most underestimated gifts of life is gratitude. The Buddhists have a prayer: “Thank you for everything.” Yes, we want to be grateful for our blessings – and our challenges as well. Our blessings give us comfort and peace of mind, and the feeling “all is well.” Our challenges call us forth to be better, to be wiser, to risk rather than play it safe. It’s going to sound like the old cliché law of attraction, but it’s true. We get more of what we focus on. Gratitude is an affirmation of what we want more of. The more we immerse in gratitude, the more others will look at us and say, “I’ll have what THEY’RE having.”

Share Your Stories and Ideas for
being grateful in March here.

This revolution of good habits will grow because you act on the habits and because you have good ideas for spreading the 12 habits too. As an example, one dentist displayed monthly habits posters.. on the ceiling over his patients - and changed them each month.  How COOL is that??  Share YOUR stories and ideas with us and we’ll feature them on the website so others can benefit from your sharing.
